10 hot tips for Video Optimization and Driving Traffic to Your Site

February 2nd, 2009

Ten quick tips for Video Engine Optimization and driving traffic to your site:

1. Create the right title – slip in as many keywords/ make sure it is benefit driven
2. Make sure the description is also keyword rich and readable (not spam), search engines know when people are trying to fool them.
3. Create a URL which is specific- possibly /video so that it is relevant to what people want
4. Use 6 – 9 relevant tags only, don’t overdo it
5. Put a call to action on the video asking people to go to the site.
Give people a free gift- a free course etc when people visit your site. Or give them 5 tips on your video and explain that all other tips are on the site etc.
6. Link to your video’s using anchor text on other websites. The more incoming links you have, the higher your ranking on google and youtube.
7. Use a different title and different anchor texts on the different hosts
8. Follow all SEO rules
9. Get a watermark for your videos (so it shows your url – then even if someone uses your video, you will still get traffic to your site)
10. Look at the statistics on other people’s related video’s, they will tell you which websites are hosting these videos. Then contact these websites and tell them you have similar related video’s and ask them to host the video’s for you!

Importance of Planning in SEO

July 7th, 2008

Alright just as a quick and dirty guide to SEO- Search Engine Optimisation,
I will just talk about the basics of trying to get to the top of google, and then the planning process that goes behind it:

First the main fundamental concept that you have to understand:
1. You are ranked based on your technical specifications, how you design your website, the keywords on your website etc.
&
2. You are ranked based on your popularity on the internet. Google judges that by seeing how many websites are pointing back to you!

Now too many people focus on one or the other; you need both & a good strategy to get there!

The first essential step is planning!
Choose a term that you would like to get into the top for;
so let us say i have an internet home based business that is available all over the world;

The first step of the process is doing my research to find out what keyword i would like to optimize my website for;
so go to google and type in internet home based business – there are 21 million results!
NOT SOMETHING YOU WANT TO COMPETE WITH!

Now what you need to do is try and find a term that has traffic but not too many organic results. So go to google sandbox and type in different keywords. Make sure they are searched (please note, the competition indicator tells you how much competition there is on adwords- which is not really relevant).
Once you have a specific keyword that people do search for, then go to google and see how many results show up for that term. (that is your competition in SEO). The less competition, the easier it will be, to get to the top!

The goal is a term that is searched for but not too many results show up for- try for at least 500, 000 general and about 12,000 exact- (hint: you search for exact terms by putting “quotation marks around your search term”

Let us go back to my previous example: Instead of optimizing for making money online, i optimized a website for ethical business opportunity

Check out the difference: business opportunity= 47,400,000 results (yes 47 million!!!!)
however my new project: ethical business opportunity: 853,000 results & only 9000 exact results!
Will keep you updated, just in the planning process at the moment.
To your success,
